I recently acquired a several year old HP laptop that used Vista as OS.  The 
main partition was corrupted, and I did a factory restore from the recovery 
partition.  The restore went ok, but I find the system runs sluggish and it 
seems there were a lot of programs/ process installed that maybe weren't 
needed.  Here is where I have a question: Instead of using the factory 
restore partition, could I have used any old Vista OS disc and input the 
product key code on the bottom of the laptop?  Would this work? 
Effectively, it would bypass the "bloatware" included with factory restore 
and I realize I would still have to install the laptop drivers separately 
and hopefully Vista would accept the key on the bottom of the laptop.
