Well, the office is really just me (and two other people use one of the machines periodically). And all the admin and support is, well, still just me. I really just want to be able to access the SL machine remotely, both filesystem and screen sharing. I can do both when I'm on the ML machine on the same local network, but when I'm, say, at the other office or out of town, the SL machine, which used to be accessible, no longer is. > > Alternately, you could take a more universal approach and migrate to a > multiplatform solution like Dropbox or Google Drive/Docs. I use Dropbox and Wuala extensively for syncing up files across machines, but they are necessarily limited - the SL machine is the main family photo and video archive, for example, and those are way to big to put in Dropbox, nor would I want them synced and filling the drives on other machines - just want access. Back To My Mac was perfect for this and now seems to be dead on the SL machine. I think I'm going to give Slink a try. If it makes it seem like I'm on the local network, I'd then be able to use screen sharing and filesharing via bonjour rather than Back To My Mac, and that'd be enough. Not sure there's much more benefit to it, though I wonder if, once linked up on Slink, the laptop thinking its on the local network might try doing the local network time machine backup to the airport extreme. That's probably not a great idea and I'll have to keep an eye on that. > > It's really up to you to do the cost/benefit analysis and determine what > makes more sense for your environment. Thanks for your comments. Much appreciated.
