I would strongly recommend news.eternal-september.org instead. Many
spammers use nntp.aioe.org, and as a result, many spam filters
automatically exclude all messages from their servers.

If that's the issue, then ask IT to install it. If, for some reason,
they object to thunderbird, ask them if there's any other news reader
that they do approve of.
