....so is ten years out of date...

Frankly with the amount of RAM and caching that goes on, a single disk 
aint that much of an issue on a single user system.

I used to do stuff that way on small memoried multi-user computers, but 
I finally gave up on it and just had one bloody great partition so I 
dint run out of /tmp or /var or /home  unless I run out of total disk space.
