Sure you can add a Printer Manually.

Make sure printer is connected. The do the following:

First go to Printer Makers Website and download the latest print driver.
Then:

Go to System Preferences. Then:

open Printer Fax Control panel.

If there is listing delete that printer. Then quit .

Now install the new print driver (downloaded).

Now reopen the Printer/Fax Control panel.

Have it look for the Printer. when it shows up go to menu choice
Printer and make Default.

Now your printer is ready.

It's actually easier to do than the way I am explaining it.
