The follow-up is automatically inserted by my newsreader, even when the 
thread isn't crossposted.  If it is, then the follow-up is automatically 
set to the first group in the list.  It is however possible to set 
another follow-up group, or to delete the follow-ups altogether (as I've 
done now.)

By the way, your newsreader appears to have a problem with correctly 
indenting the attribution lines - which I have fixed for you. ;-)

Not for hard disks specifically, but comp.os.linux.hardware might prove 
a useful resource on hardware information. ;-)

I don't really see how the SATA controller could be reporting 
inconsistent sector mappings.  I'd rather suspect this to be something 
that the hard disk itself would do.

Then it's most likely a problem with the hard disk's firmware chip, 
rather than that it would be the SATA controller, in my opinion.
