No errors or warnings from Service Control Manager. Just to clarify - if this was the case, it would happen only once - at boot time. Right after the LPDSVC started. Afterwards there would be no other error messages, no matter how long the system stayed on. It was a nice try. :) I had the same symptoms you do - about a 30 second delay from clicking the "print" button until the dialog appeared - and that was the reason in my case.
