No key code was asked for, nor was there anything anywhere about 30
days to activate. It just came up. Of course they had asked me for
all the information that was onm the labels on the bottom and I sent
it all except for the activation code and they knew that I have a
COA label and a product key.

Ubuntu took less than an hour. And don't forget that XP announced up
front that the install time was ~7 hours. If it were a flakey CD drive
it couldn't have known what the time would be.

I wasn't asked asked anything. They asked for the numbers off the
bottom of the machine and told me that my restore disk version was
configurable and that what they would deliver would be configured for
my machine. That appears to be true since it looked just like it
did when I took it out of the box in 2006.

A USB floppy came from the factory in a separate box for $50.01 and a
rebate card for $50 that I sent in promptly. I like it so well that I
bought a spare later on eBay, and eventually a USB CD drive too.
