Don't get too excited: if your code does nothing except allocate/free blocks
of memory, and most allocations are of a particularly simple type, then
you might get good speedups with a custom allocator.

In practice allocation patterns can be a bit more complex, and you can end
up wasting time doing what malloc/free already does more efficiently than 
you can.

You need to do more tests as to what overheads currently are. 50% time
saving is not worthwhile if allocation only takes up 1% of runtime. (And
then remember each implementation will be faster or slower.)
