Dear Peter, thanks for the suggestion, but it still appear to be
unsuccessful:

In[]= AbsoluteCurrentValue[
 Plot3D[Sin[x y], {x, 0, 1}, {y, 0, 1}, ImageSize -> {500, 500}],
 ImageSize
 ]

Out[]= {350,350}

(version 8.010)
