I only run -current on aarch64 so this thread made me wonder if things
were different in the official Slackware i386/x86_64 world.

But it seems not. I also have 15.0+ there:

$ cat /etc/slackware-version 
Slackware 15.0+

$ sed -n "s/^PRETTY_NAME=//p" /etc/os-release 
"Slackware 15.0 aarch64 (post 15.0 -current)"
