You could dissect/examine/parse the inxi script to see what its System 
option

inxi -S

... uses.  Eg Mint 19.1 Cinnamon:

$ inxi -S
System:
   Host: mint Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64 bits: 64
   Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.8 Distro: Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa
