But what on earth is the difference between the two cases, in your
opinion?
(other than that you personally accept one and reject the other)

"everyone accepts" is not a reason for WM to accept.

In one case you take the presence of infinitely many unexamined cases as
blocking a proof, in the other you disregard this problem.
Logic requires you to explain this divergence.

Double standards!!
