I am hardly an expert on this, but perhaps you should work to understand 
the actual pros and cons before you push how it should be done the way 
YOU like.

Typically we would view shorthand syntax as a benefit: fewer keystrokes, 
fewer lines of code, less data over the wire. Sounds great! However, it 
comes with a rather troublesome side effect: it often unsets other 
properties that we never intended to modify.

Even though shorthand alternatives are handy, they do have a 
disadvantage. Remember in the beginning we saw how shorthand overrides 
any left out properties with their default values? This can be a problem 
if the reset isn’t desired.

not in the original CSS.
