Sometimes the vi I have is not vim. I learned vi on Bill Joy vi, but I found vim less buggy and switched to that as my preferred vi. But I log into a lot of machines and not all will have vim installed. So, like when I write shell scripts for sh instead of bash, I keep in mind the non-improved ways to do things. Elijah ------ actually very, very rarely uses bash with bash-isms, but ksh-isms sometimes
