It would be more helpful to post a complete (minimal) program which
demonstrates the problem, rather than two out of context snippets.
If the problem is as simple to reproduce as you suggest, I'd expect
that you could create such a program quickly and simply. Often the
exercise of doing so will help you debug the problem for yourself.
