There is that which one might charitably call "empirical" testimony. 
People having visions, epiphanies, divine visitations.  People 
experiencing highly unlikely events such as surviving a plane crash. 
People whose diseases unexpectedly go into remission.

To be fair, that "one true" deity had been around for several thousands 
of years.  Then suddenly, two thousand years ago, he has a change of 
heart and turns from a jealous vengeful smiting sort of deity into a 
cuddly lovey-dovey god who magically impregnates a girl (without her 
knowledge or consent, mind you) so that he'd have a son born expressly 
for the purpose of dying a horrific death.  His Chosen People, by and 
large, did not follow this sudden change in personality and shift in 
doctrinal direction -- and who could fault them for it?
