If you ever make it across the pond and to the Oktoberfest in Munich, I can seriously recommend a side trip to the monastery of Andechs a few miles outside town. It's a lovely baroque pile and one of the few remaining true monastery breweries. The local Benedictine monks have been brewing beer here for 700 years or so, and their speciality is a black double bock beer with 7.1% ABV. It has a pronounced caramelly malty flavour that is quite excellent. IF you want to try it, the bottled version is available in the US: http://andechs.de/en/brewery/andechs-beer-in-us/ > > Getting back on topic for the group..... > > "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - > > Attributed to Ben Franklin, except... > > There's no proof he ever said or wrote that! > > If anyone did, Bud Light would be an argument against it. Any beer that comes with the word "light" added is evil and the devil's work. Water is filthy. It's the stuff fish fuck in.
