A further objection is that a good language should make it practical to
write code which is highly unlikely to become undefined in any future
version of the language.  That could be accomplished by ensuring that
for every construct upon which the Standard imposes no requirements but
for which there is no practical alternative, an implementation describes
a version that will work "forever" along with a directive to indicate that
all uses of the old form have been replaced with the new form.  As it is,
though, there are a number of forms of UB that are required in many kinds
of practical programming which gcc doesn't yet "punish", but for which it
does not so far as I can tell provide a clean alternative either.  How can
one use gcc to write or work with code which requires such constructs and
have any confidence that a gcc maintainers won't break it in a future
version of gcc just because they can?
