However, note that our calculations of the masses of the planets, including Earth, are based on the assumption that G really is constant. If G is variable, then our calculations could be wrong. That said, if G were to vary, it would have to do so in a very constrained way if it were not to lead to inconsistencies in the calculations of the masses of planets (which should not vary) and the paths of space probes.
