That can be a real bummer. I ha a GF who had tons of money but she couldn't 
get a credit card.  She had to, essentially, give them a deposit so they 
would give her a credit card.  They did accept her as a bona fide human 
being after a year or so and gave the money back transforming her "credit 
card" into a credit card.

If you are 18 years old, the rules are entirely different.  They *want* to 
give you a credit card. 18 may be the wrong number, but you get the idea. 
Young people are innately sponge worthy.
