The main thing I noticed when moving from NewsBase for storage, many years ago now, was how slow newsgroup expiry became, and I had assumed this was because of rewriting big compressed files. NewsBase saved messages in individual files, which saved a lot of time when deleting, but of course probably used rather more disc space especially as most of these files are small. I suppose there may be a speed difference noticeable in opening big messages such as those with large JPEGs attached? -- Matthew Phillips Durham
