In current mathematical models whole physical phenomenon is deemed to take place in metric space and physical space is treated as a redundant entity. The metric expansion and curvature of spacetime are sophisticated buzz words under the current paradigm. General Theory of Relativity provides geometric interpretation of Gravitation by assuming the 4-D spacetime continuum to be a physical entity, where matter physically influences the metric and hence the curvature of spacetime. Fundamentally, the matter as a physical entity cannot influence an abstract geometric construct. In a paper titled "Demystification of the spacetime model of relativity" [Phys.Essays 24(1), 85 (2011)] I have shown that the 4D spacetime of GR is not a physical entity but just an abstract mathematical construct with differential scale coordinate system.

If gravitational waves are now physically detected, it must imply that the waves actually propagate in physical 3D space and that the physical space is actually deformable and elastic. That is, we come back to the old aether medium which turns out to be the physical space itself!
