I read somewhere a few months ago that that Racal (it's the one with the 
Wadley Loop?) was intended to be the UK equivalent of the R390.  SO they 
probably are equivalent receivers, certainly they were both expensive when 
new.  And if it uses the Wadley Loop, they got away without having to use 
all those crystals.

The collectors even trade scans of the covers of the old batteries, so
it will look like the original.

The A batteries are the real problem, relatively high current at 1.5V. 
The high voltage B battery doesn't require much current.  Many have gotten 
away with a string of 9v batteries, they add up fast, though I guess 
that's been for mostly home made projects using tubes.
