I wonder how much *design* went into that, rather than simple 
evolution. With Russians, one can never be sure. (I know a woman from 
St. Petersburg. She is the only one who has better "too cold for 
words in the winter" stories than I do. I suspect she's also the 
smartest person I know. Certainly the best educated, with multiple 
advanced degrees.)
