I had to power-cycle the pc to fix it. I would have attributed it to the SD card itself, except that the failure has happened with three different SD cards. > This may not sound helpful for your situation, but I worked around > the problem by splitting the backups in chunks, small enough for > the pc/stick to "survive" the complete backup. Maybe you can do > the same when syncing your collection (but see below). I've played around with that aspect a bit. I've been trying to sync about 25 GB of mp3s to the phone - that is, that's the size of the initial transfer from the desktop to the phone. Subsequent syncs should be much smaller, just transferring any new or changed files. However, because I keep having to re-format the SD card, I keep having to start over and suffer through the complete transfer. It did occur to me that the failure might be related to transferring TOO much data at once (heat?) so I split the whole library into 4 parts, each one being 5 or 6 GB and letting it "rest" between chunks. It seems to work OK some of the time, but other times it fails during the 3rd or 4th sync operation. > What happens if you power off your phone, remove the card, plug it > into your pc, chckdsk it and just put in back into your phone? That doesn't seem to make any difference. The only way to bring the sick SD card back to life for the phone is to re-format it. :( > Note that the cause may not be the sd-card at all, but your phone > being unable to handle *both* the usb and sd-card data stream. I'm not in the financial mood to replace it right now, but I plan to try the test with another phone and see if I can make it happen there, too. If I can't, that should fix blame on my phone.
