Behind the Orange Curtain, LA's rich suburb. (LA metro area is so 
spread out, we need entire counties to hold the various 
stereogypical suburbs.)

And that is, I suspect, the difference. I can't *quite* walk to any 
big shopping centers, but I could easily bicycle to at least three, 
and there are at least a hundred strip malls that close. There 
isn't much I can't buy within an hour, or less, locally. Amazon is 
about price for me, and they don't always have the lowest.

I get stuff shipped to work (like everybody else in the office). 
Delivery to a business is much more reliable, and we have the 
cashiers up front well trained on how to handle UPS and/or FedEx.
