Usually, when someone complains about the quality of American beer I
assume that they're not American.  The old Monty Python joke about the
difference between American beer and making love in a canoe and all
that. 

Obviously beer made in small batches from traditional recipes is usually
going to taste better than the mass produced stuff. It all depends on
the recipe and the brewmaster. 

At this point virtually every beer company in the world seems to be part
of some multinational conglomerate, even Guiness. The only one I'm aware
of that isn't (yet) is Moosehead, but I'm sure there are others. 

By the way, I celebrated St. Patrick's day by not celebrating St.
Patrick's day.
