Mark, I'm sure you'll ignore the information I'm about to give you, but
you still need to hear it at least once.
You eat cadavers and you become dead! It's karma. The karma for killing
and eating animals is that your life is shortened from doing so. And not
only do you eat death, but you also assimilate all the emotion, fear and
desperation of the animal as it was being killed.
The same argument also holds true for plants and fish and other lower
lifeforms. However, the key is that for lower less developed species
(and especially plants) their spiritual nature is so much more primitive
than ours that the effect does not so readily transfer to us and the
damage caused to our bodies by killing a carrot or fish and eating is
very much reduced.
And as for eating a lower species alive, there is great benefit not only
to you but also to the lower species from eating it alive. As the lower
species passes through your body as it dies you and it experience a kind
of "vulcan mind meld" where the lower species catches a glimpse of
nature of higher spirituality and that can be very beneficial to it. And
of course doing good is beneficial to you as well.
Hence pick fruit off a tree where the tree has concentrated spiritual
essence in the fruit allows that essence to pass through your body and
is indeed a much more beneficial way to eat apples than applesauce. In
fact being UNDER the tree while doing that allows the spiritual aura of
the tree to surround and saturate you and is the optimum way to eat fruit!
You can look into this more once you have shaken your goofy skepticism.
