They did do a renumbering, IIRC, the day before Xmas.  From
what I saw, newsguy renumbered back to 0.  My hypothesis
is that one of the newsgroups overflowed the message number
field so they had to restart everything with a larger field.
they have done this about every two or three years since I've
been using them.
