I got a ticket driving through that shithole about 30-40 years ago.  They 
have little airplanes painted on the side of the road every mile, and 
they time how long it takes you to go from one to another.  Being 
fortunate to not be from around there, I sent a request to fight the 
ticket by mail.  It said right there in the California Motor Vehicle Code 
that a "speed trap" was defined as any method of timing a car between two 
points, and that speed traps were illegal, so I thought I had it in the 
bag, right?  WRONG!  The judge wrote back that in the case of Some Other 
Sucker VS California, the courts had held that the airplane trick didn't 
count.  Therefore and forthwith, I'm fucked.  That's when it started to 
dawn on me that when it comes to the law, shit doesn't mean what the 
words say it means.
