Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I did a normal installation of the gitolite3 package on Bookworm.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

At first, I went looking to see if gitolite3 was properly
installed. Using an installation on Bullseye as a comparison, I
checked for a user in /etc/passwd, and installation in /var/lib,
etc. No go. I then went looking for instructions on what to do
next. The man page is silent. "apt show gitolte3" is silent. etc.

I then scrolled back to the installation, and found this:

    No adminkey given - not setting up gitolite. Do a dpkg-reconfigure to setup.

Fortunately, the installation trace had not yet scrolled up off the
top. So I did as advised, and provided a key.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

The dpkg-reconfigure worked.


I've installed so many packages over the years that I only examine the
output of an installation if it bombs at the time. I suspect I am not
the only Debian user who ignores the output of a "sucessful"
installation. This installation did not bomb, so I did not examine the
ouput until later.

Please document the requirement to run dpkg-reconfigure in other
locations as well as in the installation process itself.
