Package: src:linux
Version: 5.10.46-4
Severity: wishlist

I am currently having to use the out of tree Exar USB Serial Driver
(xr_usb_serial_common) to talk to a modbus communication cable.
Last year, a reimplementation of that driver finally made mainline,
as CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_XR.

Looking at the metadata for CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_XR, it seems to support
my device:

vendor: 04e2 ("Exar Corp."), product: 1411, interface class: 02 ("Communications")

lsusb -v:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04e2:1411 Exar Corp. XR21B1411
Device Descriptor:
  bLength 18
  bDescriptorType 1
  bcdUSB 2.00
  bDeviceClass 239 Miscellaneous Device
  bDeviceSubClass 2
  bDeviceProtocol 1 Interface Association
  bMaxPacketSize0 64
  idVendor 0x04e2 Exar Corp.
  idProduct 0x1411
  bcdDevice 0.01
  iManufacturer 1 Exar Corp.
  iProduct 2 XR21B1411
  iSerial 3 G9107376441
  bNumConfigurations 1

Also worth noting that Ubuntu has included the original Exar serial
module in their kernel tree for some time.
