To be 100% fair, there *were* some issues with DNS and IPv6. It's 10 years or more since, but as far as I remember it was due to crappy DNS servers (mostly in proprietary firmwares of home routers), that claimed to support IPv6, but failed to do so properly. The quick fix was indeed disabling IPv6 support on the Linux side, but I believe the issues were soon worked around in the Linux kernel[1]. This is very unlikely to affect Gene as he is running (hopefully updated) DD-WRT on the router.
