My keyboard has buttons, too. :)

With the next and previous, different programs use different keystrokes...
and while it would be nice if there was a standard even then sometimes I
want next / previous tabs, and sometimes I want next and previous message...
so I would still want it to be configurable. I *could* also alter the
keybindings on the programs... but that is more work and I like using the
mouse.

Choice is good.

I do not like the middle-click copy / paste. I could set mine up like that
if I wanted... but personally I agree with you and hate that setup.

I do have press-scroll to resize windows as I like them. Press+Scroll Up is
maximized, Press+Scroll Down is set to my "preferred" size for most things.

As I showed, I can configure my mouse heavily.
