jeffj: Re: SB-180 (Ciarcia / Micromint) -------------------------------- As you have a couple of SB-180s and as I've not dug mine out of storage yet... maybe you can answer a question about them? One of the 64180 systems I bought back in the mid 80s had a great floppy utility for reading all sorts of floppy disks formats... I can't remember the name of the software but it came in a black and green package. I sure it was a 5 1/4 inch floppy system so I expect it was part of the Micromint bundled SB-180 deal. Does that ring a bell? Re: Hitachi HD64180s -------------------- As much of a fan as I was of the 64180 back in the 80s, I'm now looking very seriously at doing a design with the eZ80... it seems like the perfect system for any modern Z80 CP/M system. I've already read about several systems done since around 2007 when it was a hotter topic on comp.os.cpm - I was glad to see there is current mention of it as I was beginning to think it wasn't going to be available for long (Mouser and Digi-Key didn't carry any stock of the latest Dev.Sys and had a minimum order of 3 required... that's a bad sign that availability of a processor is suspect). Luckily that seems not to be the case... just another distributor stocking annoyance. Re: Wyse 50 Terminals --------------------- Yeah that terminal was a nice package. I used a Wyse-50 as the man-machine interface on a document sorter for the govt and liked the terminal so much I bought one for myself. I wrote the code for that machine on a Ampro Little Board with the Wyse but somehow I failed to buy myself an Ampro Little Board too. I'll buy one someday - I have all the documentation from that project. :) Since I found my Wyse-50 last week, I've found website on how to repair them I saw one article suggesting a replacement part. When the Wyse failed in the 80s I tried to find information like that on the BBS networks (Fidonet) but no luck. Guess information access has improved with the internet. Re: Are dumb terminals still available? --------------------------------------- That brings up something I've been pondering as I reacquaint myself with the CP/M world after being missing in action since the 80s... Are dumb terminals still available? The ubiquitous PC often substitutes for dumb terminals (I've done that in the lab too). I wouldn't mind buying some new terminals for by HD64180 systems but I'd prefer they last longer than my Wyse did. I just don't want to hook my CP/M systems to a PC... seems wrong to be compounding the idiocy of overkill in having a fancy PC do simple jobs a CP/M system would better. :) -Jay_in_Dallas
