You're correct, I did omit the file make.. Here's what happens:

comp@AbNormal:~$ apt-cache policy brscan4
brscan4:
   Installed: 0.4.8-1
   Candidate: 0.4.8-1
   Version table:
  *** 0.4.8-1 100
         100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
comp@AbNormal:~$ apt-cache rdepends brscan4
brscan4

I have some other commitments today, but will try your suggestions as 
soon as possible.
