Each Slackware upgrade, I mess with the latest Emacs. So I've messed
with font lock $THIS-N-THAT without satisfaction.  Thanks for the
suggestion, though.

I use several colors of xterms and emacsen -- setting -fg, -bg etc. in
aliases -- to keep track of which project or remote login or user (an
xterm for root gets a unique color) they belong to.  But the emacs
highlights often conflict with my color choices, either just plain
distracting me or making high-lit text unreadable. Grump.
