No, this is a rare example where Richard is wrong. The compiler is not
complaining about hour (or .hour as Richard originally stated). The
error is: "expected expression before '{' token" and comes from the fact
that the right hand side of the assignment
result = ...
should be an expression, but no C expression starts with a '{'.

No, the compiler is asking for a compound literal. It looks like a
cast, but it isn't one. But even if you like to call it one, it
certainly improves matters by making the code code syntactically
correct.
