In fact, a partition table on this same disk several weeks ago. I'm running Debian Wheezy: 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.78-1 i686 GNU/Linux. The mke2fs is version 1.42.5 (29-Jul-2012); the cfdisk is from util-linux 2.20.1. I deleted all partitions and run fdisk instead of cfdisk to rebuild a couple. This strange extended primary partition shows up that is invisible to cfdisk. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes. # mount | grep sda returns nothing. Haines
