What's not allowed is the '{'. There is no problem with the .hour (at
least no more that there can be with anything that comes after and
earlier syntax error).
The error message is quit accurate: "expected expression before '{'
token". The parse was looking for a expression of the right hand side
of an assignment. Instead is a token that can start an expression, it
saw a '{' and reported exactly that problem.
