Yeah, I had a C16 (we were too poor to afford a C64), and the lack of
feedback was astonishing.

LOAD ""
PRESS PLAY ON TAPE
LOADING
Then absolutely nothing for 20 minutes or longer, leaving you unsure
whether it was still loading or had failed.

Fortunately most games had a custom loader with a loading screen and
Spectrum-style stripes in the border.
