(At my school all the science stream did either German or Russian, and I'd already done German. Russian is a nice language, but I found it hard to express myself with no definite or indefinite articles. The alphabet was easier to learn than I had anticipated, and brought an unexpected bonus when I visited Greece: I could read street signs, menus and package labels in shops, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could understand from words which were obviously the root of English ones.) -- Paul Sture
