John,

Does this [64-character line maximum] of version 2.58 vary from the 
stated limit of Merlin 8/16?

I ask because the Merlin 8/16 manual provides:

"The maximum allowable combined OPERAND + COMMENT length is 64 
characters. You will get an OPERAND TOO LONG error if you use more than 
this. A comment line by itself is also limited to 64 characters."

"The maximum line length is 80 characters. Lines longer than that will 
be truncated IF they are edited."

I'll confess to getting a little lax with syntax since moving most of my 
stuff to Merlin32 (which is _very_ forgiving), but I'm certain I've 
assembled source with lines in Merlin on the Apple II containing more 
than 64 characters.
