I am on Linux :-P

Then I will retort that shortlinks might not survive many years, while 
posts might. If the post contain long full links, the reader gets an 
idea of what might be at the other end before actually going there. The 
destination server may be gone, or has changed location. With the full 
link there is a chance of finding the current, modified link.
