Former Aloha High School teacher arrested, accused of downloading child pornography

HILLSBORO, Ore. — A former Aloha High School teacher who’s 
accused of downloading child pornography was arrested Wednesday.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said detectives began 
investigating 40-year-old Geoffrey Germano, of Hillsboro, in 
April 2018 after receiving information that he had downloaded 
multiple files of child pornography.

At the time, Germano was employed by the Beaverton School 
District as a special education teacher at Aloha High School. 
According to the district, he resigned Sept. 20, but he had been 
on leave since May.

In May, detectives served a search warrant at Germano’s home and 
found evidence that he had downloaded and possessed 73 sexually 
explicit images and videos of children. Detectives said some of 
the images were accessed on the Beaverton School District's Wi-
Fi.

According to investigators, some of the child porn was 
downloaded during the 2015-16 school year. The sheriff's office 
said it found three IP addresses tied to dozens of child porn 
files. Those files were downloaded between March 2016 and 2018. 
One of the IP addresses was from Germano's home. The second was 
from the school district and the third is unknown.

In October, a grand jury indicted Germano on seven counts of 
encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree.

Deputies arrested him on Wednesday. He was lodged in the 
Washington County Jail on the seven charges and his bail was set 
at $140,000.

The sheriff's office said Germano's employment at Aloha High 
School is not related to the child pornography charges.

He worked for the district for 12 years. He was at Aloha High 
School for nine of them.

According to Germano's LinkedIn, he recently got a new job after 
posting that he was "looking to take his skills beyond the 
classroom."

A background check revealed Germano has no criminal history. He 
had a parking violation in 2014.
