Not only did we not receive complaints about the absence of this
misfeature, IIRC we did not receive any feature requests from users,
either. No, definitely not a major problem, not even a minor one. I
guess this stuff is as useful as the "optimization opportunities"
resulting from "undefined behaviour": Something the fans of the
feature like to tout in postings, but for good reasons they don't
provide any empirical evidence.
What is a major problem is the standard double number syntax. For a
newcomer, "1." does something completely unexpected, and pretty
puzzling. And when you explain what it does, the image of an obsolete
language will consolidate. We should switch to a different doubles
syntax so that we can (eventually, after a long cooldown time) use
"1." for FP.
