"This gigabit internet is fostering unprecedented gains in science and research, including insights into DNA sequencing, global climate change, and the race to new and more powerful fuel sources." Er no, I just made that up; it wasn't in the article. What is everyone doing with their new gigabit internet? Downloading and watching shit movies. Yay, humanity. And the cable companies are tripping over themselves to recreate the formerly shit experience of network TV over TCP/IP, including Youtube channels, DRMed content, the commoditization of hardware and the improvmeent of operating systems that provide little utility to the consumer other than consuming packaged content. It's a good thing the WWII generation has largely passed away from old age. Were they around to see what the current generation of clods is doing with the hard-fought gains of that generation, they'd slit their own throats in anguish and despair. "Also, the graphics in computer games is so much awesomerier! With extra bonus vectors!" Pardon me while I reach for my shotgun.
