From the "no GUI is good GUI" department: http://ebeab.com/2014/03/04/the-command-line-office/ Guy does a halfway decent job of looking at how you can do most of what you need in a day's work from the command line. It's cursory, so before you flay it for not being in-depth enough, but I found it interesting anyway. Covers emacs/vim, sc, a python Twitter app, calendaring, presentations, password keeper, and a bit more. I'm sure there are lots of improvements to be made. Off hand I'd add taskjuggler for (awesome) project management, and auctex/latex for documents. There's also an interesting discussion going on hacker news in response, although people already have gotten wrapped up over the word processor question, as usual: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7344068 -- RS Wood <rsw@therandymon.com>
