OK! I am running Google Maps App on my iPad 2. If I enter an address or 
coordinates into the search field and execute the search to said 
location, G-Maps places its location tag at the searched for location. 
Now if I tap on that location tag (the black dot inside a reddish blob) 
a window will opengiving me information on that locatio and several 
options. I can save it my tapping on a blue star, i can share the 
location by tapping the curved blue arrow (options for G+, Message, 
eMail, or copy to clipboard), or I can have the route to that location 
calculated from my present position.

if I save it, the star changes from blue to gold and is added to your 
"Saved Places". You get to those by tapping the little person symbol to 
the right of the "X" in the search window. That opens you information 
page showing stuff you might have told Google about yourself, a picture 
or Avitar, home address, work address, the status of your "Web History" 
and last but not least, a list of your saved places.
